A doctor who lost money on her first business, and who was diagnosed with breast cancer the day before her first official work day in her new business, kept going anyway. Six years later Aglow runs clinics from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru, Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, a hair-care brand and its own skincare, Dr.Aglow. The founders’ story — in Dr Amelia’s own words — the products and the strategy, built from the founders’ public accounts, the NPRA cosmetic registry and more than 4,300 Google reviews.

Quick answer
Aglow Clinic is a Malaysian medical-aesthetic chain founded in 2020 by Dr Amelia Siah, an International Medical University graduate, and co-founder Winnie Tan Voon Nie (aglow.com.my). Dr Amelia started it while being treated for breast cancer, as she described in a podcast episode published in 2025. Its website lists 16 clinics, and we captured 19 Google Maps listings rated a weighted 4.92 stars from 4,364 reviews (24–25 September 2026). Its skincare brand, Dr.Aglow, and sister hair brand AglowHair hold 24 active NPRA notifications, with a Professional line for in-clinic care and a retail line for home (NPRA extract, 3–5 September 2026). Revenue is not published.
Key takeaways
- A founder who would not give up. Dr Amelia lost money on an earlier clinic partnership, then chose to launch Aglow while going through 16 cycles of chemotherapy (Postcall podcast, 2025).

Who is behind Aglow?
Aglow was founded by Dr Amelia Siah, its CEO and founder, and Winnie Tan Voon Nie, its co-founder, in 2020 (aglow.com.my, Founders’ Words). The skincare is notified by Medskiin Sdn Bhd, based in The Boulevard, Mid Valley City — the same building as Aglow’s Mid Valley clinic — and the hair range by Aglow Hair Pioneer Sdn Bhd.
A doctor with a beauty-industry eye
Dr Amelia graduated in medicine from the International Medical University in Kuala Lumpur in 2010 and trained at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. In 2007, while still a student, she won Maybelline’s “The Beauty in Me” contest and trained in New York with make-up artists; she later obtained a diploma from the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine and trained further in Korea (aglow.com.my). She has more than 14 years in medicine, ten of them in aesthetics (company-stated).
The operator beside her
Winnie Tan has been a beauty-industry entrepreneur since 2011: she was general manager of Wyann International, which ran 26 retail outlets, and ran licensed Sothys outlets and launched her own Aviana Clinic between 2017 and 2019 before co-founding Aglow (aglow.com.my). Her leadership extends across four brands — Aglow Clinic, Aglow Hair, Dr.Aglow and ACT Health Clinic (aglow.com.my) — and the Dr.Aglow shop names her as the founder and CEO of the skincare brand, established in 2022, with Dr Amelia as co-founder (draglow.com, Our Founders).
Founder interview: in Dr Amelia’s own words
In an episode published in March 2025, Dr Amelia sat down with Dr Selina Chew on Postcall: Stories Beyond the White Coat, the podcast of the doctors’ platform Disruptive Doctors (episode page; full video on YouTube). What follows is her account, quoted or closely paraphrased from that episode.
The first venture: “a partnership is never that simple”
After four and a half years of government service — at Hospital Kuala Lumpur and then at a maternal and child health clinic in Sabah — Dr Amelia was introduced to an aesthetic-clinic business and, at about 30, joined other partners, including a senior aesthetic doctor, to start a new clinic brand. She was a co-founder with a minority stake. To raise her six-figure share she took a personal bank loan and borrowed from her mother and a childhood friend.
She says she gave that business everything, working across operations and marketing as well as treating patients. But after nearly four years, she said, “I learned that a partnership is never that simple”: she had not received any return on her investment. She tried to talk it through, then left with two weeks’ notice — and did not take a single client with her, because “client belongs to the company”. When her mother was later diagnosed with breast cancer, she asked her former partner to buy back her shares to pay for the treatment, and accepted a smaller amount.
She does not describe it with regret. “I don’t see it as a partnership issue, I see it as a relationship issue,” she said. Her lesson: in any relationship — business, work or family — say clearly what you want, listen to what the other person wants, and give each other what you need.
Starting Aglow — and a diagnosis the day before
After a year and more working at another clinic, a friend asked her to help revive a clinic that had lost its doctor. This time she proposed building her own brand, with herself as founder and majority shareholder. She and her business partner planned through the 2020 lockdown, and Aglow Medical Group was set up in June 2020, with the first clinic in Mid Valley.
Then, she recalled, “I was diagnosed with breast cancer just one day prior to my official work day.” That night her family’s first reaction was to stop everything, and she agreed: she called her partner over and told her to set aside the more than RM100,000 already put in. For seven nearly sleepless days she weighed it up. The cancer was triple-negative, an aggressive type. She reasoned that if she did not survive, she would at least have built something to leave behind — “but what if I survive?” She decided to continue, and funded the project with her insurance payout.
Building a brand through chemotherapy
Her treatment lasted about a year and a half: 16 cycles of chemotherapy, surgery and 20 sessions of radiotherapy, followed by seven months of oral chemotherapy. After each chemotherapy cycle she rested for two or three days — still working remotely on her phone — and returned on the third day to see patients, because the young clinic needed its doctor.
The values she built Aglow on
Dr Amelia asks every team member to memorise three values: teamwork, problem solving and humility. Humility matters most to her. She told the story of an emergency-department shift at Hospital Kuala Lumpur when she declined a VIP’s request to be seen first, and treated the sicker patients ahead of him. At Aglow, she said, nobody should use their position to win an argument or to disrespect others. She sees aesthetic medicine as caring for mental well-being too: helping people feel good and look good so they can do better in life. The episode’s own summary lists her takeaways as putting patient safety above business pressure, building trust and authenticity with patients, and adapting to change.
By the time of the interview Aglow had grown to 18 clinics, with Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu confirmed as the 19th and 20th, alongside Dr.Aglow — “our own professional medical skincare product” — a health clinic and AglowHair.
Skincare born from a patient question
Dr.Aglow began with a question patients kept asking Dr Amelia: “How do I choose skincare I can trust?” The answer was a brand of formulations she describes as effective and scientifically grounded (draglow.com, Our Founder). The first Dr.Aglow product, Derma360 Revitalizer, was notified in December 2022 (NPRA). The brand’s promise is to “make beauty accessible to everyone”, and its motto is “Everyone can live a glowing life” (aglow.com.my).

Built around what happens in the treatment room
Dr.Aglow’s range mirrors the clinic menu. Peptide peels, exosome and PDRN products and barrier-repair gels are the same concepts customers meet during treatments, so the take-home products continue the result at home. Our explainer on peptides in skincare covers the science behind multi-peptide formulas such as M.P.S. 28.
A steady launch rhythm
New Dr.Aglow and AglowHair products have been notified every year from 2022 to 2026, with four in May–August 2026 alone (NPRA) — a range that keeps pace with what customers see in the clinic.
Who the customer is
Aglow’s customer is the urban professional — often in her twenties or thirties — who wants medical-grade results at accessible prices in a calm clinic. Clinics sit in Mid Valley, Damansara Utama, Bukit Jalil, Publika, Subang Jaya, Kota Damansara, Johor Bahru and Penang (aglow.com.my), and the brand speaks to Chinese-reading customers on Xiaohongshu as well as on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
Why is Aglow growing?
Aglow grows because it pairs a doctor-founder’s clinical credibility and resilience with retail-grade operations, and backs both with standout customer satisfaction.
Customers rate it among the best
We captured 19 Aglow Clinic listings on Google Maps with 4,364 reviews at a weighted 4.92 stars (24–25 September 2026) — one of the highest ratings of any multi-branch aesthetic chain in Malaysia.

Six reasons Aglow succeeds (our view)
- A founder story of real courage. Building a clinic chain through chemotherapy is a story customers and staff remember.
- Doctor plus operator. Clinical credibility and retail discipline in one founding team.
- Values that shape service. Teamwork, problem solving and humility show up where it counts — in a 4.92-star average across 19 listings.
- Accessible premium. A mission to make aesthetic care accessible widens the market.
- Skincare that extends the treatment. Professional and retail tiers keep customers in the Aglow system between visits.
- A brand family. Dr.Aglow, AglowHair and ACT Health Clinic let the group serve the same customer in new ways.
Lessons for your own brand
- Write your culture down, and make it short. Three values anyone can memorise are easier to live by than a long mission statement.
- Design two tiers: professional and retail. Our guide to launching a clinic skincare line explains how treatment-room and take-home ranges differ.
- Get the partnership right before the paperwork. Dr Amelia’s advice is to say what you want and listen to what your partner wants — before money changes hands.
- Tell the founder’s story honestly. A founder’s real journey builds trust no advertisement can buy — see also our NFG success story.
Room to grow
- Share the story more widely. Dr Amelia’s journey is one of the most powerful founder stories in Malaysian aesthetics, yet its fullest telling is a podcast episode. Bringing it into the brand’s own channels would give Dr.Aglow an even stronger voice.
Beyond Malaysia
Aglow’s clinics already reach Sabah and Sarawak, and its range includes active concentrates from Singapore. A doctor-led brand with a professional-plus-retail system is well placed for regional growth. Compare the other models in this series: Dr Chong Clinic, Dr Ko and Hannan Medispa.
